Vietnam
It's hard to speak of Vietnam
without a twinge of shame,
not for the ones who fought and died
but those who sought to blame.
The ones who served were fightung men
who served their country proud
They'd never fought a war in which
no vict'ry was allowed.
While soldiers on the battlefield
were being asked to fight,
the left was finding ev'ry way
to call to task the right.
the politicians played their game
like labeling our troops.
Instead of patriotic cheers
derision , taunts and hoots.
The riots at the colleges,
the stars who chose Hanoi,
were undermining ev'ryone
who'd ever been deployed.
And so we pulled our forces out
and let a nation go, ,
and those not captured, killed or lost
came home ignored you know.
And now that thirty years have passed
the ones who died recalled
engraved within a nations heart
and on a solemn wall.
And of the ones who made it back
can they forgive us Lord,
who showed to them such disrespect
while they were fighting hard.
Dear God we pray that not again
will heroes such as these
be treated in such thoughtless ways,
dishonored for a peace.
It's hard to speak of Vietnam
without a twinge of shame,
not for the ones who fought and died
but those who sought to blame.
The ones who served were fightung men
who served their country proud
They'd never fought a war in which
no vict'ry was allowed.
